seriously, sometimes i do have to sit in an office and write a bunch of letters, but then there are days like thursday when i realize how cool my job is.
so lets backtrack-- i worked for an architecture firm for a little while. in doing so, i realized i like old architecture WAYYY better than new architecture. see. old > new
anyway, i went to tulane in new orleans (the most amazing historical architecture kinda place on earth) to study historic preservation. it was such a cool experience. i got to study under some amazing professors, i hung out in cemeteries, i toured every inch of new orleans. side note: if you need to know good places to eat in new orleans, i can help!
after i finished school in may, i started work at the mississippi department of archives and history. some of my cooler days at work have included hanging out in natchez, touring vicksburg and yazoo city, and seeing every little town that i did not even know existed. but by far, the coolest thing ever happened on thursday.
my friends know how much i LOVE jackson. i know some people think i am crazy, but i have a serious deep love in my heart for this city. i take offense when people make rude comments, or don't have faith in my passion for wanting to revitalize downtown jackson. its an incredible place. it is just small enough to be able to get involved and make a difference SO easily. so, on this great day, i got to go to the TOP of the state capitol building
see that golden eagle at the very top. yeah thats where i was.
basically we went to the top floor, crawled up on the roof, then climbed several sttteeeeeeeeppppp ladders on the outside of the building. so scary.
we climbed into the dome and went up another ladder, then bam! there i was, overlooking my favorite city!
see scary tall ladder, and boss man's behind
this is a view inside the capitol looking to the top of the dome
this is a view from on TOP OF THE DOME, looking down inside the capitol building.
and i got to do this all because they wanted me to look at a leak on the roof.
just another day at the office (or out of the office)
